How big is Alaska? There’s a whole industry based on flying tourists to attractions you can’t get to by car, or just to get a good look at the scenery. They call it “flightseeing.”

Alaska is huge, too big to see in a single visit, and we didn’t really try. I went north of Anchorage, up to Denali, and south of Anchorage to Homer, on the coast. We stopped in Palmer to visit the Alaska State Fair and spent a little time in Anchorage, where 40 percent of the state’s population lives. I wrote five columns about Alaska.
